We’re delighted to announce Perfect Paws Vets as the winner of Veterinary Practice of the Year at the My Local Awards 2026 Yorkshire.

This award celebrates practices that combine professional excellence, compassion and a genuine commitment to the animals and owners they care for, and Perfect Paws Vets is a truly deserving winner. As a proudly independent veterinary practice, they have quickly built a reputation for outstanding care, strong values and a deeply personal approach. Even more impressively, they have achieved all of this in less than a year of being open.

What makes this win so special is the story behind it. Perfect Paws Vets was founded by veterinary professionals with more than 40 years of combined experience, who wanted to create a practice that did things differently. After years working in a corporate environment, they were inspired to open an independent practice where they could deliver fair prices and outstanding care on their own terms. That vision has clearly resonated with the local community, and this award is a sign of just how warmly the practice has been embraced.

Built from the ground up with a clear purpose

Perfect Paws Vets was founded in January 2025, but the journey began with an empty shell of a building that had to be completely renovated before the practice could finally open its doors in July 2025. That is a huge undertaking for any new business, and especially for one in a profession where standards, equipment and environment matter so much.

From the beginning, the goal was to create a practice that reflected the owners’ values and experience. Having worked previously in a corporate veterinary setting, they knew they wanted to build something more personal and more flexible, where decisions could always be guided by what was right for the individual animal in front of them.

That decision took courage. Starting from scratch, learning as they went and turning an empty space into a fully functioning independent veterinary practice is no small achievement. In their own words, the whole process was a major challenge, but it is one they tackled together as a team. That spirit of teamwork and determination has clearly shaped the practice from day one.

What makes Perfect Paws Vets different

One of the biggest strengths of Perfect Paws Vets is its independence. Being independent means every choice can be made with the pet’s best interests at heart, without outside pressures shaping the way care is delivered. That is something many owners value deeply, and it gives the practice a real sense of integrity and trust.

Another major advantage is continuity of care. At Perfect Paws Vets, owners see the same team who get to know their pets personally. That consistency matters enormously. It helps animals feel more comfortable, reassures owners and allows the team to build genuine relationships over time.

The practice places huge value on those relationships. Trust is clearly at the heart of everything they do, and that personal connection is a big part of what makes the experience different. For pet owners, knowing that the team truly knows and cares about their animal is often just as important as clinical expertise, and Perfect Paws Vets seems to offer both in equal measure.

A practice already making a big impact

One of the most impressive things about Perfect Paws Vets is how quickly it has made a difference. The team describes their biggest achievement as turning their dream into reality by opening their own independent practice, and that alone would be a huge milestone. To then win Veterinary Practice of the Year before even reaching the one-year mark is, in their words, the cherry on top.

That early success is clearly built on real experiences and strong relationships. Since opening, the practice has received nothing but 5-star reviews and positive feedback, which is a remarkable sign of how well it has been received. For the team, this award confirms that simply being themselves and doing what they believe in is working for their clients.

One especially lovely example of their approach comes through in the way they help nervous and reactive dogs. Rather than rushing them through appointments, the team takes time, lets them explore the surgery, provides toys in the waiting room and, of course, plenty of treats. The result is that many dogs who were previously anxious at other practices now come in happily.

That is such a powerful reflection of the practice’s ethos. It shows patience, empathy and a real understanding that veterinary care is not just about diagnosis and treatment. It is also about helping pets feel safe and helping owners feel supported.

Building trust with pets and owners alike

Perfect Paws Vets has also introduced free socialisation visits, giving pets the chance to visit the practice in a calm, positive way and build confidence before they ever need treatment. That is a brilliant idea, and exactly the kind of thoughtful touch that helps explain why the practice has won such strong support so quickly.

It also highlights what makes veterinary care at its best so different. The goal is not just to see animals when something is wrong. It is to build positive, long-term relationships that make ongoing care easier and less stressful for everyone involved.

The team’s proudest early moment also speaks volumes. Before officially opening, they held a Meet the Team Day, welcoming the public in to look around the practice. They were overwhelmed by the number of people who came along, which must have been a wonderful and emotional sign that the local community was ready to support them from the start.

Strong local roots and a bright future

Perfect Paws Vets is deeply connected to its local area. The team all live nearby and have done for many years, so providing care within their own community feels especially important. That local connection gives the practice a very genuine sense of place and purpose.

They are also committed to offering affordable care and working closely with other local pet care providers, strengthening the wider network of support available to animal owners in the area. That collaborative spirit adds yet another positive dimension to the business.

Looking ahead, it may still be early days, but the future already looks exciting. The team is especially looking forward to celebrating the practice’s first birthday on Saturday 18th July 2026, with a party that will welcome the local community into the practice to celebrate alongside them. For a business that has achieved so much in such a short time, that will be a very special milestone.

Congratulations to Perfect Paws Vets

At My Local Awards 2026 Yorkshire, we are proud to celebrate businesses that make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people and animals they serve. Perfect Paws Vets is a fantastic example of that.

From transforming an empty building into a trusted independent practice to building strong relationships with pets and owners through kindness, continuity and outstanding care, this is a business with both heart and expertise. Its win reflects not only clinical excellence, but also the warmth, patience and community spirit that have defined its first year.

Congratulations to Perfect Paws Vets, a highly deserving winner of Veterinary Practice of the Year 2026.

And finally, a message from the team: “We would like to thank all our friends, families and clients for their ongoing help and support, we couldn't have done it without you.”
